Alfred P. Sloan Foundation

A very well-known source of grant and other funding opportunities, the Sloan Foundation awarded over $35 million in 1996 alone. Their five primary interests are 1. Science and Technology, 2. Standard of Living and Economic Performance, 3. Education and Careers in Science and Technology, 4. Selected National Issues, and 5. Civic Projects. This site contains all the information needed to apply for a grant.
AT&T Foundation

The AT&T Foundation offers grants in the areas of Education, Arts and Culture, and Civic and Community Service. Their website presents information about each program and guidelines for applications. It also features links to their other education initiatives, including the AT&T Learning Network (http://www.att.com/learningnetwork/) which offers many resources for teachers.

This very extensive site catalogues nationwide educational standards, initiatives, and curriculum framework documents. Standards are presented by subject area and by state.

Laws and other documents related to education are contained at this very extensive site. The site presents full-text copies of IDEA Regulations, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Education Law Association

If you need to brush up on the many issues surrounding assessment, this is a good place to start. The ENC has articles on aligning assessment with learning, alternative assessment, strategies for classroom assessment, and standardized testing.

An online orientation to the grant-seeking process highlights this site. Also includes a comprehensive "User-Friendly Guide to Funding Research and Resources." Some of the sections of the site have recently required paid membership to access but this is still a worthwhile resource.

National Center on Educational Outcomes

Much of the focus, for good or bad, of the federal government's No Child Left Behind initiative is aimed at assessment, both of the student and of the teacher and school. This website explains the Department of Education's efforts encompassed by the Act. It offers fact sheets, lists of Key Dates, a bi-weekly newsletter, and information about Reading First.

Preparing Students to Take Standardized Exams

Though written for the Chicago Public Schools, the information here applies to all teachers. The highlights include two lengthy documents detailing how to prepare elementary and high school students to take the standardized exams. There is also information on creating rubrics.

This is one of the best websites. A free service from the Library of Congress, Thomas features an exhaustive list of federal and state laws, available in full as well as the Congressional Record. It even includes the constitutions and laws of other nations and hundreds of treaties and other international laws. |
